Berlin

It is no surprise that Germany’s thriving capital is a favourite destination for corporate event professionals for both business and incentive trips.

Renowned for its diverse arts and cultural scene, Berlin is home to hundreds of museums and galleries, distinguished opera houses, several open-air cinemas, a plethora of small independent theatres and countless high-end shops.  Film enthusiasts will find nestled within its sprawling streets the Babelsberg Studio, the world’s first large-scale film studio established in 1912 and Europe’s largest to date, while fashion connoisseurs flock every year to the city’s illustrious fashion week.

Berlin also has no shortage of exciting team building activities that will get delegates’ hearts pumping. Kayaking is not an activity that immediately springs to mind when you think of Berlin, but unbeknownst to many visits the river Spree and the Landwehrkanal run through the town offering some beautifully scenic waterways to explore. Kajak und Kanuverleih Kommrum is Berlin’s first kayak rental to offer a kayak delivery service to their customers  - you pick a place and they’ll bring the kayaks to you! They offer up to 8 double kayaks complete with equipment and an experienced tour guide if required. Alternatively, delegates can enjoy a day out at MounteMitte where they will be put through their paces completing complex tasks and exercises and a low ropes obstacle course!

There is no doubt that Berlin offers delegates ample opportunity for play, but that isn’t all that the city has to offer corporate clients. It also boasts a number of world-class convention centres and corporate event venues perfect for exhibitions, product launches, presentations and meetings. The Columbia Halle is one of Berlin’s most unique and attractive venues. Located directly opposite the Tempelhof airport this former recreation area for the US Air Force has been transformed into a stunning location for corporate events, meetings, presentations, gala and sporting events and concerts. With space for up to 3,500 spectators, dedicated versatile meeting spaces and beautiful gardens it is a site for major events within the city.

Cologne

Cologne is an extremely accessible city benefiting from an excellent transportation infrastructure making it easy for corporate visitors to make their way in and around the city with minimal hassle. Several high-speed rail routes to Brussels, London and Paris; a comprehensive bus and tram network with day tickets costing as little as 9 euro; and the Cologne-Bonn airport which flies 10 million passengers on 31 airlines to 110 destinations every year are just some of the transportation perks of this great city.

With this in mind, Cologne is Germany’s leading trade fair and convention centre and renowned technology hub and home to the German Aerospace Centre.  More than 50 trade fairs are held every year at the Koelnmesse Exhibition Centre and the city boasts a number of stunning event venues including the Rhein Sieg Halle. Situated in close proximity to an ICE train station, motorway and airport the Rhein Sieg Halle is every delegate’s dream. Within easy reach of the city centre, the venue offers state of the art equipment and over 1000 sqm of exhibition space which can be extended into the foyer giving an additional 440 sqm, or divided into two smaller meeting rooms perfect for presentations and conferences. A comprehensive event organisation package and versatile space make the Rhein Sieg Halle an attractive venue for corporate event professionals.

But this city isn’t all work and no play.  No stay in the Cologne is complete without a visit to the Cathedral, a masterpiece of medieval gothic architecture built between 1248 and 1880. 42 museums, 120 galleries, the famed beer halls of the old town and boat trips up the Rhine are just a few attractions that delegates can enjoy. For more structured downtime, Cologne is home to an unusual teambuilding craze that is making its way across Europe – Adventure Rooms. Up to six delegates are locked in a room together and given just 60 minutes to free themselves using hidden codes, clues and hints. Only 30% of teams have escaped so far so this is a serious challenged requiring excellent communication skills and a lot of lateral thinking!
