Description
The town hall is a masterpiece of Magdeburg modernism. The event and multi-purpose building, built in 1927 for the German Theater Exhibition, quickly developed into a point of attraction in the heart of the city. Since 2020, the town hall has been converted into a modern event location, which is also intended to shine with its listed substance from the "New Building" era. By 2027, it will be undergoing a facelift: the facades will be renovated in accordance with monument protection regulations, smaller additions to the building will be dismantled, and the interior of the hall will be completely rebuilt. The stage is moving to the opposite side and the latest technology is being installed. This means that the town hall will be very flexible in the future and can accommodate a wide range of events. As part of the ensemble of the Hypar bowl, the horse tower and the Albinmüller tower, the location in the town park will soon be surrounded by the new "Event Plaza", where up to 11,000 guests can celebrate with a panorama of the cathedral and the Elbe. A lot of water will still flow down the Elbe before the curtain rises for the first time in 2027 after the renovation - but Magdeburg's culture will remain in flux. One of many other good addresses for events of all kinds during the renovation of the town hall is Saxony-Anhalt's largest multi-purpose hall, the GETEC Arena .
